The Impact of AB1955: Navigating School Officials’ Secret Policies
**Know Your Parental Rights at Your Child’s School**
Parents, are you frustrated by the lack of transparency and accountability in your child’s school? Join us to discover how to effectively advocate for your child.
Today, many parents feel excluded and disconnected from what is happening in their child’s classroom. New policies, legislation, and ideological agendas have permeated the daily curriculum, leaving parents wanting more transparency about their child’s school experience. However, many school officials provide only limited access to information, leaving parents in the dark.
This trend toward secrecy is alarming, especially with the recent passage of California Assembly Bill 1955. Signed by Governor Newsom, the bill forbids school districts from enacting policies that require District staff to notify parents when their child is suffering from mental health issues including “gender confusion” (with pronoun changes from him to her, etc.) unless the child grants permission to inform. An exception is provided in the bill when a child may threaten suicide or self-harm. Many parents see the application of AB 1955 as a dangerous shift, one that exploits the vulnerability of school children and undermines the parental role as primary advocates for their children’s well-being.
Understanding how to navigate school policies and gain access to vital records and information is essential. To help parents with this, the Del Mar Seacoast Club is hosting a Know Your Parental Rights educational session featuring attorney Craig P. Alexander, an expert on the Public Records Act and Policy. He will provide parents with tools to dispel the secrecy surrounding school practices and legally obtain access to their child’s records, as well as how to best utilize this information to protect your child’s safety and wellbeing.
This community event is designed to foster open dialogue, empower parents, and promote transparency and accountability in our schools. If you want to know about your rights as a parent and how to navigate school systems and hierarchies that may exclude you, this event is for you.
Don’t miss this opportunity to arm yourself with knowledge and tools you need to advocate effectively for your child’s education.
